Puberty can be confusing. There are so many changes happening at once it’s easy to get stressed. Many teenagers worry unnecessarily about whether their experiences are normal but we all experience puberty at our own speed. Here are some questions often asked by boys that may help make sense of it all!
Q: Am I normal if my penis seems much smaller than the penises of other boys in my class?
A: Penis sizes vary depending on your overall body size and the characteristics you have inherited from your parents. You’ll find that you develop at a different rate to your friends during puberty. There’s no precise starting date or schedule. However, keep in mind that penises that seem smaller when soft, and lengthen to a greater degree than larger penises when they become erect.
Q: I experience a wet dream most nights. Is this normal? I’m really embarrassed and get up early to change the sheets so no-one knows about it.
A: Wet dreams are normal. Most boys will experience some wet dreams by their mid-teens. It’s just part of growing up. Wet dreams do occur less as you get older and move through puberty. Try talking to a parent or a trusted male friend about their experiences during puberty. Remember that they all went through puberty too so can relate to what you’re going through.
Q: I seem to get unexpected erections at the most embarrassing times. Can I stop this happening?
